Life Really Is the Greatest Gift of All

by Sabriya Dobbins, Founder of Project Passport

In a previous blog, we talked about stress and in another one, we talked about maintaining your wellness through a retreat. One thing is for certain, life really does have lots of curve balls like stress, anxiety, mental illness and so many more. We are constantly finding ways to dodge and address the hits. However, what if we took on a different perspective? What if we began to look at the beauty of the curve despite the dirt stains on our clothes?

We are constantly squirming under the expectations of ourselves and others leading to increased unhappiness and fear. We stare blankly at social media pages wondering what went wrong since we don’t get to live like the person smiling back at us. We start swimming in the pool of self doubt and then we begin spiraling down regret lane. We are not handling what life is throwing at us very well.

Society has suggested to us that we move as “zombies.” It asks that we constantly chase the lives of others rather than becoming more introspective and appreciative of our own. According to a study by the University of Western Ontario Canada, social comparison leads to depression and other negative self views. There are thousands of other studies with the same outcome. The most important memo of all has been missed by millions of people.

We look in the mirror feeling frustrated with our weight, our hair, our facial features, our skin and so many other cosmetic factors. But we do not think about the limited time that we have to take advantage of our physical forms. We spend time crying when we face emotional rejection, but we forget just how important we are to so many. We do not always remember just how loved we truly are.

Life really is a miracle. Think about it. Of all of the combinations that could have occurred in the world, you were carefully created to be exactly who you are. Just the mere fact of being alive in a world where so many souls are lost each day to tragedy is something we often take for granted. For every hardship that you face, a victory is around the corner. For every tear that is shed, laughter is not too far behind. Don’t miss the memo that so many fail to receive:

The greatest pleasure and gift one can ever have is life.

Cheers to living! Cheers to wonderfully being you!
