Is this the Next Big Game-Changing Mental Health Experience? Around the World of Mental Health

Adventures, scavenger hunts, games, activities, cooking, and mental health. Who knew that all of these things can encompass one event, and a virtual one at that?! On August 8, 2020, people from several NC cities, US States, and even other countries are all joining in on a mental health and wellbeing experience of a lifetime. A space where they get to learn, do, and connect all while on the Zoom video platform.

Expertly designed by Project Passport Founder, Sabriya Dobbins and mental health advocate, Jackie Pilgrim of NAMI Durham, Around the World of Mental Health just might be the most dynamic virtual mental health event yet. It all started back in early 2020, before the Covid_19 virus was officially announced, Sabriya presented the brainchild event idea to NAMI Durham. Both parties knew this style of programming will change the mental health game!

The original event was planned to be an interactive hands-on symposium in April. Once the event was postponed and then cancelled, the pair decided to create a virtual retreat series to provide stress management and other wellness resources to the community. The series was called “Life, Self Love, and the Pursuit of Mental Wealth.”

This was a HIT with 4+ retreats performed and over 125+ registrations in just a few months!!

With the knowledge gained from the virtual retreats and the plans from the original event blueprint, Jackie and Sabriya launched Around the World of Mental Health: A Virtual Escape, a FREE hybrid event with physical event items going into the mail of participants, a cooking class, and over 20+ interactive mental health and wellbeing sessions with professionals in the workout space all the way to reiki and shaman practices.

The entire goal of this event is to inform the community of the multiple mental health modalities they can access outside of standard care. Life coaches and health coaches can be a great supplement to counseling to help people further address their issues. Having a reiki teacher could be just what a client needs to overcome fear. Speaking to a nutritionist can be what it takes to manage stress.

What makes this event unique? Each interactive session has a scavenger hunt clue for the overall adventure around the world of mental health. Participants are to remain in cohorts, named after countries around the world, while the presenters rotate to the breakout rooms on a set schedule. The sessions are blitz style being only 8 minutes long. Finally, the event contains a live and interactive cook-a-long class as well as a selfie session and kazoo along party. Not to mention, yoga and dance sessions are included for all around wellness and fun! Winners of the scavenger hunt have access to prizes up to $150+ in value!

Will this event be the next big virtual experience? You’ll have to attend to find out!
